This is a small, almost miniature SMALL TRINKET CONTAINER, and it has a removable lid, and seems to be made of bone, stone, or some other super-hard material. It's hand-painted and in good clean condition, but the old varnish seems to be flaking on the lid and leaving a bare spot. A sweet shelf-style container for maybe holding some of your coins or rings? There is no marking for maker or location, but I'd guess it's from India.
