Vintage Hand-Painted Japanese Kutani ware 6-Piece Teapot, Teacups and Saucers in the famous Landscape and Bamboo Motif, with an exquisite eggshell finish. Condition appears to never have been used. Everything is EXCELLENT, no chips or cracks. No wear or scratches on the images, and the gold trim is deep and vibrant. Made in Japan.
Makers marks on the bottom of this vintage Kutani, made for export and during the era when wares were labeled "CHINA HAND PAINTED," often feature as this set does, a red diamond mark with "NS." This mark represents a distributor or importer rather than a specific manufacturer, and is commonly seen on mid-20th century Kutani-style porcelain.
DID YOU KNOW? Kutani ware (九谷焼, Kutani-yaki) is a vibrant style of Japanese porcelain from Ishikawa Prefecture, famous for its bold, painterly overglaze designs using rich colors like red, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Originating in the 17th century, it's known for dynamic nature motifs (flowers, birds, landscapes) and evolved from early "Ko-Kutani" to the revived "Saikō-Kutani" in the 19th century, becoming a celebrated export during the Meiji era.
