ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Michael Duncan is a Scottish-born Canadian author, poet, illustrator, and historical preservationist based on Canada’s West Coast. Educated at the Gordonstoun Naval Academy in Scotland, where he published his first poetry book at age 12, Duncan later moved to Canada and built an eclectic background as a teacher, pilot, sailor, and martial arts instructor for the Canadian military. Deeply dedicated to regional heritage, he served as the curator of the Delta Historical Museum and chairman of the Ladner Architecture and Beautification Committee in British Columbia. His self-published collections, such as Wind and Wild Grass (1976) and Time Echoes Softly (1998), blend his own detailed black-ink illustrations with nostalgic poetry that celebrates past life on the West Coast—so much so that his work was once officially presented to Richmond City Council members as a tribute to local history.
