THE PRIVATE VOICE, A Journal of Relections by Peter Gzowski, is a story within a story, written day-by-day while anchored in his cottage on Lake Simcoe and in his Toronto apartment.
Peter takes us from one end of Canada to the other, introducing us, and re-introducing us to writers, potiticians, other journalists, entertainers, the Timmins newspaper, Morningside and MacLean's magazine personalities, along with ordinary Canadians.
But it is more than a diary. As with most of us, the activities and events of each day bring forth thoughts and memories of people and times past. It is fascinating to read of the adventures, hopes, dreams, advice to writers, and thoughts of a man who spoke for Canadians for years on CBC radio. Having lived a life of adventure, exhalting experiences, honorary doctorates and awards, self doubts, mistakes, heartaches...as Zorba the Greek has said, "the whole catastrophy." Peter Gzowski passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2002.
