In 1938, Caplin, Skippered by Commander R.D. Graham with his daughter Marguerite as mate, set out from England to sail around the world. Sixty years later, Cdr Graham's grandson, Captain Ian Tew, bought Independent Freedom in New York and, with his aunt's account of the voyage as a guide, sailed in Caplin's wake. The side-by-side accounts of their navigation to remote shores provide a fascinating historial perspective against which the calms and storms of sailing are ageless. 

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Born into a seafaring family reaching back to a notoriously successful 17th Century privateer, Ian Tew was learning to sail at the age of seven. He made his career in the British Merchant Navy and then as a salvor in the Middle and Far East but, after returning to the UK in 1991 to run a small business, has returned to wind and canvas. 

MILFORD ON SEA, is a large coastal village and civil parish in the New Forest district, on the Hampshire coast, England. The parish had a population of 4,660 at the 2011 census and is centred about 3 miles south of Lymington. Milford on Sea has a traditional green surrounded by lots of independent shops, cafes and restaurants, making this a thriving place to visit.
