REMINISCENCES OF OLD LAHORE, Forty Years of Painting by Dr. Ajaz Anwar, is a call-to-arms that it's time to protect the heritage and culture of his city, and he does this through his local paintings.
"The idea behind this exhibition is to try and create an awareness about our endangered heritage i.e. the city of Lahore. I have tried to paint only those spots which are in danger of being altered. I have concentrated on the street patterns, its architecture, architectural and decorative elements and the traditional materials seen in different shades of lights and colours during the four seasons. It all gives character to the city which needs to be saved and salvaged. Cities, like languages keep changing but the change must be planned and under control. We all have to contribute in this endeavour. Writers, poets, playwrights, lawyers, doctors, painters, singers, drama artists, shopkeepers, small vendors, practitioners of traditional skills, mothers, fathers and children all have to play their respective parts to save this city and its traditions for the posterity." --Dr. AjazAnwar Lahore, October 2003
