In OLD STONES, the gap between A. S. Penne's privileged English and provincial Canadian backgrounds is made achingly clear in family stories from both continents.
The author sifts through many photographs, letters and heirlooms handed down through generations of her English heritage and compares them to what at first appears to be her negligible Canadian inheritance. In the end, the author does indeed find home-where she least expects it.
