LADY RANCHER, A Modern Pioneer Story by Gertrude Minor Roger, is a an autobiographical account of ranch life beginning in 1944 at the Cruickshank Ranch near Beechy, Saskatchewan, and it's strongly evocative of the undaunted spirit that helped shape Western Canada. 

Gertrude Roger's story opens at the old Cruikshank Ranch near Beechy, Saskatchewan. As a young woman, she marries John Minor and lives, works and raises a family on a large, prosperous cattle ranch. The Minor's later owned the huge Chilco Ranch in the Chilcotin region of British Columbia which was stocked with 5,000 cattle. When her husband died in the crash of his light airplane, Gertrude Roger was forced to take over business and ranching operations.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Gertrude Minor Roger - First introduced to ranching near Beechy, Saskatchewan in 1944, she married John Minor, the son of rancher John Minor Sr., and later they owned the Chilco Ranch in the Chilcotin with 5,000 cattle. After her husband died in a crash of a light airplane, she took over the ranching operations. She retired to Lethbridge. Parts of her huge ranch were sold to Neil Harvie, a partner, and three years later an auction was held to sell equipment and animals. The new owner was Jim Stewart of Kelowna, who sold it to Dick Newsom who resold it to Roger and Harley Hook of Kamloops in 1975.
