Donald "Don" Armstrong was born in New York in 1919, and grew up in the aura of many of America's greatest aviators. His father, Archer Armstrong, had been a pilot as early as 1910, and along with his aviation associates, nutured Don's childhood dreams of becoming a test pilot. Don soloed in 1932, became a professional pilot in 1939, a test pilot in 1941, and remained an active pilot for 42 years!
