HOW CAN ONE SELL THE AIR? is is a book that explores Chief Seattle's famous vision and speech, focusing on the evolution of the speech and its impact on the environment and culture.

The book examines multiple versions of the speech, including the original Suquamish oral tradition version, as well as popular 20th-century adaptations. It also delves into the historical context of the Suquamish people and their relationship with the land.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Chief Seattle lived from approximately 1790 to 1866, in the Pacific Northwest region of what is now the United States. He was a chief of the Suquamish and the Duwamish and was present at treaty negotiations that took place with the white settlers in the 1850s. It was at one of these negotiations that Chief Seattle delivered a speech in his native tongue, a speech that has since—in a variety of forms—served as the basis of ecological movements around the world.
