FRIDAY'S FARE, An Anthology of Short Stories With a Chilean Flavour, by Ellen Hawkins, Jane Newbold, Susan Siddeley, is a rare and unique collection of short stories, written by the authors to share the trials of the expatriate experience.

The title of this anthology derives from the Friday get-togethers of a writing group which met for the first time in Dunkin' Donuts in Providencia, against a background of clamorous traffic, clattering trays and Chilean voices.

In subsequent meetings in a quiet office in Vitacura, the authors wrote from word prompts. Selected stories from those exercises appear here as single entries or under collective headings, as in 'And'. Other pieces flowed from suggested themes such as 'A Cultural Misunderstanding'. But whatever the source of inspiration, each story has its origin in the experience and imagination of the individual writers.
