GREAT BRITAIN PENNY COLLECTION: Vintage Framed Set of 5-Rare pre-decimal Pennies, Monarchs Who Served 1837-today
This is the 30+ year old Vintage collection of Genuine British pre-decimal coins, dated and dedicated on the back of the frame as June 11th, 1991, by "The Likely Lads" probably as a gift to some visiting Canadians after a night out at the Cameleon Club, in South Shields, UK, with Mom, Pat & Phyllis! All coins are real and authentic and issued during the reign of the given Sovereign. This collection is attractively presented in a wood frame measuring approximately 6 3/4 inch x 5 3/4 inch.
This Set of 5-Rare pre-decimal Great Britain Pennies consists of 5-rare pre-decimal pennies featuring monarchs who have served Great Britain during the later part of the 19th century to the present Queen Elizabeth II.
- Queen Victoria (1837-1901),
- King Edward VII (1901-1910,
- King George V (1910-1936),
- King George VI (1936-1952) and
- Queen Elizabeth II (1952 to present).
DID YOU KNOW? The pre-decimal penny (1d) was a coin worth 1⁄240 of a pound sterling, or 1⁄12 of a shilling. Its symbol was d, from the Roman Denarius. It was a continuation of the earlier English Penny. The penny was originally minted in silver, but from the late 18th century it was minted in copper, and then after 1860 in bronze.
