He has extensively observed and written about bears in Alaska, BC and Alberta, publishing numerous bear-related titles such as The Great Bears of Hyder, Alaska & Stewart, B.C. (Hancock, 2001) and The Magnificent Bears of North America, And Where to Find Them (Hancock, 2001).
