Antique Deck of Cards by Thomas de la Rue Company in Original Double Slipcase: especially made for the P&O British Freight and Cruise Line! Condition of the cards is BRAND NEW OLD STOCK! This stunning little pack of playing cards exudes authenticity. The cards are still factory-wrapped in their original plastic, though the plastic has now become brittle and is deteriorating. The good news is that the deck of cards is pristine, and remains sealed with the original gold foil-stamped company crest.
The outer box has seen some life, but still highly displayable in it's own right, and features the Thomas de la Rue and P&O names on one side, whilst the other side displays an actual attached playing card to showcase whatโs inside.ย The inner slipcase appears to be in excellent condition. Made in France.
An incredible attention to detail for a simple deck of playing cards, and yet a truly rare opportunity for collector's of P&O and Antique Playing Cards to add such a unique item to your personal collection. Cheers! -Paul
HISTORY OF P&O SHIPPING: P&O began in 1837 as the Peninsular Steam Navigation Company, founded by Brodie McGhie Willcox and Arthur Anderson to transport mail and passengers to the Iberian Peninsula. By 1840, the company expanded to the Orient, becoming the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O), a global shipping giant that transported troops, people, and goods to the far reaches of the British Empire. As air travel grew, P&O transitioned its vast passenger fleet to leisure cruising in the 1970s, a venture that now operates as P&O Cruises, part of Carnival Corporation. ย
