AGNES MACPHAIL: REFORMER, Canada's First Female M.P., is the amazing biography of a remarkable Canadian woman, as written by Doris Pennington.

"If only we had more members of parliament with the pluck, principles, and presence of Agnes Macphail. She was the first female MP in Canada, representing South East Grey in Ontario for the United Farmers of Ontario (and sitting for the Progressive ) from 1922 to 1940. She also had an affiliation with the CCF after it was formed in 1933. Feisty and convincing she persuaded a largely male electorate (women had won the federal vote in 1918) that she would do the most for them. They supported her through all the social issues she took up - divorce, prison reform, women's equality, pensions, and more - a committed reformer. A superb communicator - in speech and writing - with a quick wit. It was a pleasure to get to know her through this biography and learn more about that period in Canadian history. She had many entertaining and perceptive comments about the prime ministers in that period: R.B. Bennett and William Lyon Mackenzie King." -Reviewed by Gwen Harris, Goodreads.
