Elesco No. 602 Mathematical Instrument Set from the early 1970's. Everyone had a math set similar to this, and for sure has used a set like this in high school. This one has a few dings, scuff and scrapes, but still has most of the original contents. The tin is in good condition, still strong, with a good working hinge and clear vintage graphics. Made in Japan. BONUS: A Thrift-Shop Re-seller price sticker of .25 cents from 1996 is still on the bottom.Â
DID YOU KNOW?Â
$0.25 in 1996 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $0.45 today, an increase of $0.20 over 28 years. The dollar had an average inflation rate of 2.09% per year between 1996 and today, producing a cumulative price increase of 78.58%. This means that today's prices are 1.79 times as high as average prices since 1996, according to Statistics Canada consumer price index. A dollar today only buys 55.556% of what it could buy back then. The inflation rate in 1996 was 1.57%. The current inflation rate compared to the end of last year is now 1.15%. If this number holds, the rate of inflation is so negligible that $0.25 today will roughly maintain its value. Interesting eh?
