THE TIGER SIDE OF NIGHT, is the second book of poetry by Olga Costopoulos, as she probes ancient archetypes and confronts personal demons through poetry both vivid and sparse.
Costopoulos grew up along the Battle River in Alberta on a small ranch, later obliterated by a strip mine. With humour and defiance, her book challenges the night and the many fears we face. Beginning with memories of a rural childhood, the collection goes on to deal with gardening, art and Ovid’s love nest by the Tiber. Along the way the poet scrutinizes figures from Greek mythology with the same feminist eye that examines the nature of housework. The collection ends with four poems from "Singing Toward Armageddon," a sequence that won the CBC Alberta Anthology Poetry Contest in 2003.
