This special coin is commemorating the first year of issue for the new Canadian Loonie. The design is the work of Robert-Ralph Carmichael of Ontario, and depicts a common loon. Coin is pure nickel electroplated with bronze golden coloured.
DID YOU KNOW? The 1-dollar circulation coin was introduced in 1987 as a cost-saving measure to replace the one-dollar bill. The coin was instantly dubbed the 'loonie' after the solitary loon that graces the coin's reverse side.
