GC&C Customer Question #1: Paul, What is your favourite type of tin and why?
Hello, and Thank you to everyone who's asked this question, and what an excellent question to ask a guy who's collected tins all his life, and has in excess of 500 original antique or vintagte tins in his collection. Here is his answer:
My favourite type of tins are simple in design, have clear graphics, and display timeless images that don't require knowing a date to love them. They just tug at your heart, and you know they are a part of your past. And my favourite brand would have to be BLUE BIRD, and every variation of, especially the early Blue Bird Toffee Tins that more prominently feature the HARRY VINCENT name, as I personally find them very classy, classic and well-made! -Paul Gillmore
Speaking of BLUE BIRD VINTAGE TIN CAN CONTAINERS, here's a timeless tip on how to date any Blue Bird Tin...
1. If the address ends 'Hunnington near Birmingham' it is 1930s - 1950s.
2. If the address ends 'Hunnington, Worcestershire' then it is 1950s or 60s.
3. If the address on the tin includes 'West Midlands' it is 1974 or later.
4. If the slogan 'Take the Home Sweet Home', is visible, it's 1920s-1950s.
